DATSUN（ダットサン） This was the new brand name born in 1932 at DAT Motor Company, the predecessor of Nissan Motors. The company’s predecessor, Kaishinsha, used the “DAT” brand, which was an acronym for the three investors. The name was initially “DATSON,” meaning “son of DAT.” However, because “SON” was associated with the character for “loss,” the name was quickly changed to “SUN” (sun), and finally to “DATSUN.” The Datsun 240Z rally car, bearing the SEIKO logo and the car number 11, raced 6,200 km across the African continent and won the East African Safari Rally, known as the world’s most grueling race, in 1971. At the same time, Seiko won the international competition to develop automatic chronographs, and was one of the first to mass-produce them. This limited-edition Datsun 240Z collaboration model embodies the spirit of challenge shared by both companies as they took on the world. Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Mechanical Datsun 240Z Limited Edition Dial The iconic Datsun 240Z logo is placed at the 6 o’clock position. Inspired by the color of rally cars, which reduces light reflection, the dial is matte black, with red accents on the second hand and dial ring improving readability. The Arabic numerals used to display the countdown timer are newly rewritten based on the instrument panel of a rally car. Case / Strap By operating the crown at 4 o’clock, the dial ring moves, allowing you to count down any time in a motorsport competition, such as the time remaining until the start or a tire change. The strap is made of leather produced by an LWG(*)-certified tannery, and is punched to give it a sporty design. *LWG (Leather Working Group) is a non-profit organization that aims to promote sustainable leather production and raises awareness of quality, safety, and environmental issues. As a member of LWG, we aim to increase the adoption rate of leather straps made from LWG-certified leather to over 90% in the future. Case Back The case back features a three-dimensional reproduction of the logo used at the time. As proof that it is a limited edition model, the words “LIMITED EDITION” and a serial number are inscribed.
