A Jew on The Way: Jewish Wisdom from the Camino de Santiago and Beyond
$ 15.75
Description In a world increasingly divided by religious and cultural differences, A Jew on The Way offers a unique Jewish perspective on pilgrimage and interfaith relationships, set against the backdrop of the Camino de Santiago. As the Camino continues to grow in popularity, this book provides a timely and relevant exploration of how shared experiences and empathy can help bridge divides. Blending Jewish wisdom with ancient pilgrimage, the book weaves together encounters with unique characters and reflections on universal human experiences. At a time when Jewish identity is often framed through geopolitics and the war in Gaza, A Jew on The Way highlights Jewish tradition rooted in peace, common humanity, and spiritual exploration. Photos included. About the author: Adam van Heerden is a psychologist and world wanderer, captivated by the power of pilgrimage to broaden perspectives and build bridges across religious and cultural divides. Based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia, his journey has been shaped by 2.5 years studying ancient Jewish texts in Jerusalem, followed by a shift to a humanistic exploration of life’s big questions. Pilgrimages to the Camino de Santiago, India, and Nepal, along with encounters with Tibetan Buddhism in remote monasteries, have deepened his reflections on life, death, and spiritual practice. Adam runs his own private psychology practice and works in palliative care, helping families navigate vulnerability and loss. He has contributed to Stories from ICU Doctors and Contemplating the Role of an Intensive Care Doctor (Springer Nature), as well as online publications NoCamels and We Are Explorers. Off-duty, he loves playing capoeira, hiking, and philosophising with friends about the strange and beautiful business of being alive.
