An Early Tasmanian Story: With the Oakdens, Cowies, Parramores, Tullochs and Hoggs by Anne and Robin Bailey (Secondhand Book)

$11.04 $20.64
Description SECONDHAND BOOK – EX-LIBRARY An Early Tasmanian Story tells of five interwoven and interrelated Tasmanian families, who were all significant in Tasmania’s heritage in their own right. Only minor references have been made to the families previously in Tasmanian history, but Susanna Allen and Jenny Blencowe, the descendants of the five families, wished to see these Tasmanian settlers receive their proper place in Tasmanian history, and it was to this end, that they commissioned Anne and Robin Bailey, historians and genealogists, to write the full story of the Oakden, Cowie, Parramore, Tulloch and Hogg families in Tasmania. Philip Oakden’s establishment of the Union Bank of Australia (later part of the ANZ Bank) in Launceston in 1838, and John Anthony Cowie’s settlement of Geelong as the first squatter in March 1836 have been dealt with in the book, as well as the Parramore’s 1823 establishment of their property Wetmore in Ross in the Midlands. A chapter is also devoted to William T Parramore’s time as Private Secretary to Lietenant Governor Arthur, 1827-1832. Sixteen historically important color plates and thirty seven black and white plates from the Emma Cowie / von Stieglitz Album are also included in the book. Specifications: Condition: Good – some spine creasing, library labels. Publisher: Blenallen Press Year: 2004 Format: Paperback Pages: 428 ISBN: 0646432273
