Description SECOND HAND BOOK William Traylen was a Methodist minister and politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1890 to 1897. He was the first Methodist minister ordained in Western Australia.He was appointed chairman of the Perth Water Board, serving from 1898 to 1904. He retired to Guildford, and was elected to the Guildford Municipal Council, serving as mayor from 1914 to 1918. He died in 1926, aged 83.During his time as Mayor of Guildford, he proposed fundraising events to support soldiers, including a “Sand bag movement” with boy and girl scouts making sand bags to support the war effort. Another of William’s talents was wool spinning, on wheels that he made out of sheoak. Traylen spinning wheels were much in demand by members of the WA Wool Spinning Association. He procured fleeces and raised funds for the war effort by demonstrating wool spinning at many gatherings around Perth.
